118 Days in the NICU

118 Days in the NICU
As part of a national effort to save babies from premature birth, the March of Dimes has designated November as Prematurity Awareness Month. The month of November is dedicated to raising awareness about premature births, while also raising funds for the March of Dimes. In 2010, my daughter was one of 13 million infants born prematurely. Bella was born at 25 weeks gestation, she weighed one pound 7 ounces. Several weeks past before I could touch her. Several surgeries and a heart attack took place before I could hold her. After 118 days in the NICU, she was well enough to come home. She's in the hospital today and I miss her dearly. With 3 school age children, a home and a wonderful husband to care for, I can't be by her side 24/7. Many of these babies don't live to go home to their families. I consider my story to be one that is filled with hope and happiness. It is my deepest wish that raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of preterm labor, as well as the dangers for mothers and babies will help decrease the number of preterm births.

Preemie Awareness Month
As part of a national effort to save babies from premature birth the March of Dimes has designated November as Prematurity Awareness Month. The month of November is dedicated to raising awareness about premature births, while also raising funds for the March of Dimes. Almost 13 million babies are born early every year. In 2010, my baby girl was included in that statistic. She was born at 25 weeks gestation weighing 1 pound 7 ounces. Several weeks past before I could touch her. Several surgeries and a heart attack took place before I could hold her. 118 days passed before I could bring her home. 2 years later, she's been admitted at least 20 times. She's in the hospital today and I miss her dearly. With 3 school age children, a home and a wonderful husband to care for, I can't be by her side 24/7. Many of these babies don't live to go home to their families. I consider my story to be one that is filled with hope and happiness.
